Today was like any other day. Children were playing games in the street, cars were cruising down the street and the smell of home baked bread could be smelt as its irresistible aroma flowed from the chimney to all the people nearby. Today was probably the best day of Karl's life, that was until 'IT' happened. After then nothing was the same, everyone was. Different. They walked differently, interacted differently and worse of all, they smelt differently, a mixture of decaying flesh and that new fragrance by Calvin Klein, and I hate to admit that if it wasn't for the smashed bottle on the mans head I wouldn't of known the difference. But this was just the beginning, all around the country these 'stories' started to appear on the news and day by day they got worse. At first people assumed it was just a new virus, and would just pass over but it got worse, it spread rapidly. Within 5 days half the country was infected, thats when the more serious allegations came out. Some believed it to be an act of bio-terrorism, an attack on this great nation by 1 of our many allies while others decided it was a government experiment gone bad and that this 'thing' had escaped and was causing havoc everywhere, neither of them were backed up by any substantial evidence but it was easy to get hooked to these conspiracy theories, and once hooked you would never get away. This country i speak so affectionately of is Italy, the home of pizza, pasta and Venice, Queen of the Adriatic and city of light. Personally? I think the truth is a little more chilling. Now it may just be all them video games i have been playing but these people, well, they seem like. Zombies! I know that you probably think "wow, hes crazy" but think about it. The way they walk, the way they smell and even the way they talk to each other. Is that not all zombie related? I'm sure you know what Im talking about; they are basically the definition of zombie just slightly more life-like, thats what worries me most. If these 'things' really are zombies then that means we, your average human beings, are their food and they will do anything to get it. Thats what i told my friends anyway and just a few seconds after putting on the TV the latest broadcast came through. "Zombie Outbreak in Italy". Surely now they would believe me, after all the news even said so but unfortunately after last weeks broadcasts most people were not sure if even the news was telling the truth, but i guess thats what happens when headlines like "killer mammoth loose in Sahara" and "Ice man found in Barbados", not to mention the "ape gets high on ice cream" situation can do to you. But i had to try, didnt I? How could I live if I knew i could of saved my friends but didnt? Instead i just left them to the hordes of zombies soon to surround our once peaceful neighbourhood. Thats when the most horrible thought occurred, "where is my family?". In all the trouble i had forgot about them, now i just need to hope they are alright, although they should be considering 2 of them have high scores of surviving to level 30 on Nazi zombies. Its at that moment that everything takes a turn for the worst, i hear glass breaking, banging on walls and the unnerving creek of a floorboard. I look round my room, trying to find anything which i can use to fight, a baseball bat, hockey stick and even a kitchen knife are all within reach but that it not what my eyes are fixed too. The blinding light reflected off the barrel and large rounds are exactly what i need, thats right, it's my treasured Barrett XM500. With a maximum range of 6800m and a 10 round detachable box magazine it is exactly what i need. With the gun ready i sit there as still as a house at 1:00AM just waiting for the old, oak door to open. Aiming down the sights and finger on the trigger i get ready and it's then that i see a familiar face down my 12Xscope, it was Martin along with Anton, Adrian and Alva. My friends had finally come to my house, I guess they finally came to their senses and now truly believe this is a zombie apocalypse but even better, they bought guns and ammo. We now had everything we needed to fight our way to surviving a zombie apocalypse, everything but Michael Jacksons' 'Thriller' which Im sure will soon make an unexpected appearance. And it did, hidden in my old Lady Gaga albums which i can't believe i'm admitting to. And so it begins, our fight for not only our survival but the rest of humanity. It is now 7:00AM on a miserable Saturday morning, and outside my bedroom door? Hundreds of these zombies, we were up all-night killing them, well, I was up all night killing them. My friends went to sleep, not to say i blame them, it was a very long day but they did help fortify our position. Boarded windows, barricaded doors and even reinforcing the cat flap. After all, you never know what to expect. Now 8:00 the sun was starting to rise, this meant the zombies were weak and we could easily outrun them making this the perfect time to stockup on food, drink, ammo and medical supplies. First stop, Supermercato. While appropriately named it also was home to a lot of zombies as while the epidemic occurred lots of 'people' were shopping so we had to be careful. The good thing was that this place being a supermarket it also had a pharmacy so all we needed now was a gun shop which was only across the road but we had only just got here so it was time to scavenge the supermarket. We found everything from pizza to water and antibiotics which was all happily chucked into our trolley, we also picked up a few DVD's while we were there, 'Transformers', 'Die hard' and 'Borat' to be precise all of which Im sure will be essential in our fight. But for now we had finished our shopping, taking the trolley with us now no-one could stop us. Next stop, K-mart. The home of everything that goes 'BOOM' or 'BANG' from RPG7's to ak47's and everything in-between from Raufoss ammo to anti tank salvos. This was a boys dream, guns everywhere and now? Nothing to stop us. We eagerly set about taking everything off of shelves and placing it in our trolley, getting more if required. This is what would save our life and it was then that we saw it, gleaming in all its glory, the 'ultra super gun', 'so powerful it could blow up a frog in 0.00024 seconds'. Exactly what i wanted but now it was getting late almost 21:34PM and that meant that in about 26 minutes the zombies would be back tot heir true potential. We ran home and locked ourselves in, unpacked our shopping and got ready to survive the night, the 'super ultra gun' never leaving my side, i even took it to the toilet with me, well, you never know when a zombie will attack.
